Michael J. Hsu served as Acting Comptroller of the Currency from May 10, 2021, to February 10, 2025. As Acting Comptroller, Mr. Hsu was the administrator of the federal banking system and chief executive officer of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). During that time, he also served as a Director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), and chair of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). Mr. Hsu delivered over 40 speeches, sharing bold ideas and engaging stakeholders on a wide range of topics, including financial stability, artificial intelligence, fairness, financial health, mergers, bank-fintech partnerships, operational resilience, and trust in banking.
From 2010 to 2021, Mr. Hsu served in the Division of Supervision and Regulation at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. In that role, he led the supervision program for the global systemically important banks (GSIBs) operating in the United States, contributed to a host of post-crisis regulatory reforms, and collaborated closely with international regulatory peers.
Mr. Hsu also prudentially supervised the large independent investment banks while at the Securities and Exchange
Commission from 2004 to the 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC). During the GFC, he helped stand up the Troubled Asset Relief Program and oversaw AIG while at the Treasury Department. Following that, Mr. Hsu assessed financial stability risks as a Financial Sector Expert while at the International Monetary Fund. He started his career as an attorney at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in 2002.
Mr. Hsu holds a bachelor of arts from Brown University, a master of science in finance from George Washington University, and a juris doctor from New York University School of Law.
