Dr. Crocker is CEO and co-founder of Shinkuro, Inc., a start-up company focused on dynamic sharing of information across the Internet and on the deployment of improved security protocols on the Internet.

 

Dr. Crocker has been involved in the Internet since its inception. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, while he was a graduate student at UCLA, he was part of the team that developed the protocols for the ARPANET and laid the foundation for today’s Internet. He organized the Network Working Group, which was the forerunner of the modern Internet Engineering Task Force and initiated the Request for Comment (RFC) series of notes through which protocol designs are documented and shared. For this work, Dr. Crocker was awarded the 2002 IEEE Internet Award. Dr. Crocker also holds an honorary doctorate in mathematics from the University of San Martin de Porres in Lima, Perú.

 

Dr. Crocker’s experience includes research management at DARPA, USC/ISI and The Aerospace Corporation, vice president of Trusted Information Systems, and co-founder of CyberCash, Inc. and Longitude Systems, Inc. His prior public service includes serving as the first area director for security in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), the IETF Administrative Support Activity Oversight Committee (IAOC), service on the Board of the Internet Society and the Board of The Studio Theatre in Washington, DC.

 

Dr. Crocker earned his B.A. in mathematics and Ph.D. in computer science at UCLA, and he studied artificial intelligence at MIT.

 

Steve Crocker was selected by the 2008 Nominating Committee to serve as a Board Member. He has been Chair of ICANN’s Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) from its inception in 2002 until December 2010, and he served as SSAC’s non-voting Liaison to the ICANN Board until being selected by the Nominating Committee. He was selected to serve a second term, starting in Dakar in October 2011 and running through the Annual General meeting in 2014. Steve served as Vice-Chair from December 2010 until June 2011. At the organizational meeting following the regular ICANN Board meeting on June 24, 2011, Steve was elected Chair of the ICANN Board. He was re-elected Chairman of the Board at the organizational meeting held in Dakar on October 28, 2011.

Robert Coles

Robert holds a portfolio of roles: he is the Head of Security Strategy at DS Smith PLC, he holds a number of board positions including Chair of Crossword Consulting Ltd Board, Non-Executive Director of Crossword Cybersecurity PLC, Chair of the Board at Think Cyber Ltd and advisor to the Government of Singapore Ministry of Health. He is also a Governor/Trustee and Audit Committee Member at the University of Brighton.  Robert has over 35 years of audit, risk and security experience and has held a number of senior leadership positions, including CISO for the NHS and health & care system, GSK, National Grid, and Merrill Lynch and Head of InfoSec at Royal Bank of Scotland, and he was a partner at KPMG.

Robert is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Assurance Research and Engineering at George Mason University, Washington DC. He is also an Visiting Professor at UCL. He was awarded a PhD in psychology by the University of Leeds for his work on the perceptions of information and IT risk and has published and presented on this and other topics. He continues to undertake research in these areas. He was also awarded an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Auzzie Brown

Auzzie K. Brown is a senior principal architect with AT&T Public Sector, serving as a technical visionary for cybersecurity services. He is a cybersecurity and information technology (IT) professional with over 30 years of experience.

 

Mr. Brown previously served as a vice president in the White House Business Unit of L-3 where he was responsible for delivering information technology services to the President of the United States and his National Security staff. He has also served as the Deputy Secretary of Technology and Chief Operations Officer for the State of Alabama, where he planned IT and Cybersecurity support for the historic 2017 U.S. Senate Special Election.

 

Mr. Brown has held CIO and CISO executive positions with First Tennessee Bank, WestStar (J.G. WENWORTH) and First Guaranty Mortgage Corporations, leading teams to deliver innovative IT and cybersecurity solutions that significantly increased annual revenue for these organizations.

 

He co-founded and served as a Managing Partner of RedWolf Cybersecurity Group, LLC.

 

Mr. Brown served for nearly 24 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an Aide-De-Camp to Brigadier General John M. Watkins, Deputy Commander, United States Army Information Systems Command. He trained and deployed soldiers and IT assets in support of “Operation Uphold Democracy” to remove the military regime installed by the Haitian coup d’état that overthrew the elected President Jean Bertrand Aristide.

 

Mr. Brown also served as an assistant to Dr. John P. White, Deputy Secretary of Defense. He was appointed by Deputy White to the committee that developed the strategy for a $1.2B Pentagon renovation. He planned and established a first-of-its-kind U.S. Army Theatre Cyber Security Operations Center in East Asia. General David Petraeus’ cited Mr. Brown for a top performance evaluation for innovative initiatives to modernize the U.S. Army’s, XVIII Airborne Corps’ IT capabilities.

 

Mr. Brown played a key role in a historic initiative to deploy Wi-Fi aboard fixed wing airplanes, resulting in a technology transfer to the private sector and consumer use onboard commercial airlines on a global  scale. His platoon was cited by The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for exceptional Mobile Satellite Communications support to Warfighters during the conflict, “Operation Just Cause”, resulting in the capture of Panamanian General and Dictator, Manuel Noriega. And, as a First Lieutenant, he was directly responsible for management, capacity planning and staffing of the Hot-Link communications enterprise used as the primary means of communication by The President of the United States and Russia in the event of a Nuclear War.

 

Mr. Brown hails from Tuskegee, Alabama.

Tom Anderson

Tom Anderson is the founder and Managing Partner of DataStrategi, LLC, a Management Consulting firm established in 2014 focused on strategic planning, business growth and operational performance for government focused contractors (GovCon).   The firm supports small to medium sized businesses seeking to evolve beyond the small business size standard thresholds into the full and open competitive environment.

Tom brings 35+ years’ experience of leadership of publicly traded and privately held organizations.  He is a recognized as an experienced leader supporting the Civilian and Defense agencies in areas of Information Systems, Health Sciences and Engineering Services.

His career includes senior leadership at SAIC, where he led the development of the business strategy for the company’s Health Services business and supported the development of SAIC’s five-year overall corporate strategy.  He served as Group President at Wyle, where he led an organization of 1,500 employees combining the capabilities of information systems, health sciences and engineering ultimately positioning the company for sale.

As president of CSC’s $1.3B Civil & Health Services, he led the daily operations of a business encompassing all Civilian Agencies, the Health Services practice, the State and Local business unit, and the Canadian operations.  The organization grew significantly under his leadership.

Prior to CSC, Tom served as a Chief Operating Officer at Raytheon Company, where he created and developed Raytheon Information Solutions, an organization focused on combining the disparate information systems offerings of the firm.

As a key leader and early employee at Federal Data Corporation, a then prominent small business government systems integrator where Tom spent 13 years with the company as it grew from a small business through the sale to the Carlyle Group and then to Northrop Grumman.  He began his career with Boeing Computer Services, serving in various data center operational roles and Program Management positions.

Tom served as a Board Member and then Public Sector Chairman of TechAmerica, a nonprofit trade organization bridging commercial industry and government supported by 400 member companies.

He holds a Master of Science in Technology Management from George Mason University and the CIO Certificate from the Federal CIO Council.  He was Chair of the GMU Technology Management Capstone Advisory Board from 2007-2011 and was Chair of the GMU MSIS Capstone Advisory Board from 2015-2017.  In 2021, Tom joined the GMU Business School Advisory Board where he and other peers assist GMU in the continuous evolution of one of the area’s finest Business Schools. In 2021, Tom joined the GMU School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council where he and other experienced executives provide relevant business and industry insights to the Dean and his team.

Marilyn T. Smith

Marilyn T. Smith

Marilyn served as Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer from 2013 through 2019 at George Mason University, where she led the Information Technology Services department in supporting aggressive growth of the university to its current position as the largest research university in Virginia. Marilyn drove the development of an IT strategic plan and IT Governance. She led the expansion of a robust WIFI network, substantial strengthening of the IT Security organization and a significant increase in university IT Security awareness. She partnered with three Academic VPs to lead a strategic student experience redesign program resulting in the establishment of a customer relationship management (CRM) platform and improved business processes and systems. For the last three years of her tenure, Marilyn led the Commonwealth of Virginia Higher Education CIO Council.

As Chief Information Officer of Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2009 through 2013, Marilyn worked in partnership with faculty, staff and students to transform IT at MIT to a customer, outcomes and people focused organization and culture. This included designing and implementing a robust IT Governance system, developing and executing multi-year student and administration strategic roadmaps, and redesigning and automating major processes including registration, admissions, payroll and finance.

In 2020 Marilyn won The Tambellini Group CIO of the Year Award for her accomplishments at George Mason University and at MIT.

After graduating from Wellesley College with a major in Astronomy, Ms. Smith spent 26 years at John Hancock in information systems, including leadership positions in Retail Insurance and Investment Management. Subsequently she spent 4 years at Liberty Mutual as Vice President and CIO of Personal Market Information Systems, and 9 years at The Hanover Insurance Group, the last three of which she served as President of the Life Companies. Marilyn received an MBA with highest distinction from Babson College.

Ms. Smith is a Director on the Board of CSP, Inc., a provider of IT high performance products and technology solutions. She is Chair of the Compensation Committee and a member of the Audit and Nominating Committees. Marilyn consults as Virtual CIO of BOMI, international provider of educational products and services to the property and facility management industries. She serves on the Board of the Wellesley College Business Leadership Council, on the Advisory Board of Armored Things, on the NSF City and County Cybersecurity Governance Advisory Board and on the Friends of Music at Mason Board (FOMM). She is a Fellow of the Center for Assurance and Research Engineering (CARE). She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and Women Corporate Directors. Marilyn is a graduate of the Aspen Institute Executive Leadership Seminar and of the Harvard Business School Managing the Information Services Resource Program and she is an MIT Leader to Leader Fellow.
